Delicate hook application was required to provide the skin-tight,
streamline design of your tank skin, therefore it requires CAREFUL
INSTALLATION. These hooks can easily tear out if much tension is pulled on them,
so keep your thumbs and fingers on them until the installation is complete.
Treat it like SKIN. It may take several warm days for creases and wrinkles to
settle out.
Before Installing:-
Remove front seat
- Clean and wax your tank thoroughly.
(Dirt can damage paint) - Thoroughly clean the spots on the tank where velcro
will stick!
- The Tank Skin will install much
easier if tank and skin are WARM. (If skin is rigid you can put in clothes
dryer by itself on high for 1 minute)
- You may need to reposition or cut your
rubber tank mounts or rubber strips on tank or tank side panels.
- You can trim up to 3/8" off
the plastic hooks if needed.
'87-'90 CBR 600
- Loosen the fairing to be able to slip hooks onto edge of tank.
Start with attaching rear hooks first, then work forward. From the point where
the bungie emerges from the cover it should slip under the tank then be
positioned on top of front tank mount. Carefully
adjust the skin and make sure it is on straight with stripes before gently
putting back into position.
’03 CBR 600RR
- Remove plastic panel so
you can slip plastic hooks onto edge of tank.
Bungee cord with metal hooks should slide under top faring, (it might be easer
if you have something that is straight with a hook to pull the cord through).
After you have both cords put the plastic hose on ether side, now hook the
hooks and slide the plastic hose over the hooks so that you don’t scratch the
bike.
'91 -CBR 600,954, all CBR 1000
- Remove side panels. Disconnect the front bolt on tank. Lift tank a couple of
inches (or remove) to be able to slip hooks onto edge of tank. Bungee should be
positioned on top of front tank mount. Ease the skin into position, making sure
it is on straight before putting tank GENTLY and carefully back on. CBR 1000
tank skins require the most patience to install.
’99- newer CBR
600 and CBR 954: Remove the bolts in the side panels by
tank. Put rear hooks on first. The front hooks are placed just in front of the
front bolt holes. (No bungie). The side panels/bolts hold it in place.
CBR 900/919/929'93-'94:Attach front hooks first. Slide
the front hooks under edge of tank in the front of the tank and slide skin back
into the position where you can put on the rear hooks. (You may need to move
the rubber tank mounts.)
'95 - newer:
Start with rear hooks. Then slip the bungee over the top of the front tank
mount bracket. Put on the remaining hooks. On the 900 - From the point where
the bungee emerges from the vinyl, let the bungee slip under the tank, but not
on the 929. 2002-2003 919 loosen side panel just below the tank to slip on
the
CBR 1000RR Start
with the side hooks, then slide the belt strap around steering head and under
ignition switch. Hook the rear hook and tighten strap with Velcro. If your skin
has bungee you must stretch bungee over front of tank first. For models with
factory steering dampner, place cord in front of dampner over tank bracket.
CBR 1100 XX Remove
bolts in back of tank. Lift tank about 3". Put on rear clips first. Slip
bungee over front of tank and let the ends roll under the tank. Put on
remaining clips and gently ease tank back down in between the panels. (You may
trim a bit of vinyl away around grommets.)
VFR,
VTR 1000 Start with side hooks at the widest gap, before sliding into
the finished position. You may need to move or trim the rubber strip on the
side of the tank, or bend that one clip of the skin wide open.Ease skin forward into position, then put on
rear hooks, then the remaining hooks. Slip bungee up over front of tank. From
the point where the bungee emerges from the vinyl:
'94-'97
VFR: let bungee rest in the ridge on bottom edge of tank.
'98 and newer
VFR & VTR1000: let bungee ends slip under tank. The front of bungee rests
on the front bracket.
RC 51(you may remove the 2
bolts in the side panels, but it is not necessary.) Put on the rear 2 hooks of
the skin and slide them behind the side panels. Carefully and slowly, slip the
bungee up over the front of tank. Put on the remaining hooks.
